It’s been a long time coming, but after several years of focusing on the BlazBlue franchise with a sidestep into Persona 4 Arena, Arc System Works has finally announced a new game is in development in the Guilty Gear series. Entitled Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, the game was unveiled with a trailer, which premiered at the Arc System Works Festival held on May 19th, 2013.
The trailer depicts a fight between series protagonist Sol Badguy and his rival Ky Kiske, and demonstrates that the game will not use 2D sprites. Built using the Unreal Engine, the game’s characters are instead 3D models with a very stylized cel-shading to maintain the aesthetics of the characters. Other than Sol and Ky, the only other character shown during the trailer is the hair-wielding combatant Millia Rage, who is just on screen long enough to show off a new look.
Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is being directed by series creator and composer Daisuke Ishiwatari. No release dates or platforms have been announced. We’ll report more information on the game as it becomes available.
