Dragon Fantasy Book I, a retro-style indie-RPG that arrived on Playstation Network last week, is hinted at having a multiplatform release after an ESRB listing showing the Nintendo 3DS and Xbox 360 alongside PlayStation 3 and Vita appeared. This version of Dragon Fantasy is an updated port of the original game that was made for iOS, PC, and Mac.
The ESRB does have a knack for announcing things at a moment’s notice, and people should be cautious for later announcements, but if this is true, then more fans of indie-games and classic-style RPGs will have something to look forward to, as Dragon Fantasy looks like a hilarious experience. Should there be a possibility in the future, its sequel Dragon Fantasy Book II may also see a multiplat release.
Dragon Fantasy Book I, according to the ESRB, is rated E10+ for Violent References and Mild Language. For those not familiar with Dragon Fantasy, here is a trailer:
This game is having too much fun with itself. Dragon Fantasy appears to take an incredibly odd approach by infusing SNES-era Final Fantasy graphics with Dragon Quest‘s first-person battle system, along with poking fun at narrative clichés found in RPGs, and having ridiculous-looking enemies with silly names. If anything, this game is taking a lot of note from humorous translations found in English-localized JRPGs from the past that made those games so funny.
