Join the young adventurer Elliot and his fairy companion Faie as they embark on a perilous journey across the fantastical world of Philabieldia when Team Asano’s newest title, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, launches next year.
In a land beset by monsters, the Kingdom of Huther is the last bastion of humanity. When a mysterious set of ruins is discovered just beyond the protective walls, Elliot and Faie embark on a journey across space and time. As an adventurer, Elliot can wield an assortment of weapons, including swords, bows, and sickles, each of which is customizable through magicite. As seen in the launch trailer above, Elliot can swap weapons on the fly, and each weapon works better in specific situations: swords for short-range combat; bows to take out foes from a distance; and sickles for crowd control and to pull enemies closer. Players can control Elliot or Faie, whose Fairy Actions work in and out of battle.
Unlike Team Asano’s previous titles (Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy), The Adventures of Elliot is an action RPG – the first in the HD-2D series, according to Tomoya Asano, as noted on the Square Enix blog. “When we thought about where to go next, we felt that challenging ourselves to an action RPG would be a good direction. It goes without saying that we want to deliver this game to all the people who enjoyed the games that we have made previously … but I would be delighted if it could reach out to a new audience of gamers as well!”
The Square Enix blog also relayed a message from producer Naofumi Matsushita: “I hope that everyone, including all the fans of Team Asano’s previous games, can play the Debut Demo and experience for themselves what our first foray into the action genre looks like! We’ve pulled out all the stops to create an epic experience, as Elliot travels through a thousand years of history in an adventure that can be enjoyed by all! Look forward to great things!”
The Adventures of Elliot will launch in 2026, but Switch 2 players can check out the debut demo now. Save data cannot be carried over from the demo, but Square Enix will be collecting feedback from players based on their demo experiences.
