I’m just going to come out and say it: I’m sick. If it seems like I’m barely playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons for most of this week’s column, then that is because I absolutely was. I played until I started to get tired and want to take some medicine and go to bed, and that usually happened around the five-to-ten-minute mark. Even when I was doing the May Day event, I kept dozing off during it. It was only because I was warned that I would not be allowed back to the island after I left it that I pushed through to complete it.
Here’s hoping next week goes easier on me…

I suddenly feel guilty about Cephalobot giving me fake art. He asked me today about leaving, and I took that to heart. Was it in connection to him committing fraud? I hope not, but now I’m not completely sure…
I also found Tybalt’s lost bag, and I returned it to him. I finally ALSO found Gulliver washing up on the shore, asking me to check an anchor’s blood pressure in the midst of his deliriums.
Overall, a less intense day than most, thankfully.
May 1

Today, I got a letter in the mail from Tom Nook. It invited me to go to the airport before May 7th to do a May Day tour. I have no idea what that is, but I will be sure to do it!
Kicks also came to visit, and I bought socks today. My wardrobe is unfortunately full, and so I have no where except my inventory to keep it at the moment.
May 2

Redd came today, and I spent a lot of time picking through art. I am…pretty sure that this was a fake Winged Victory of Samothrace. I think. I saw the real thing in 2015, and it immediately struck me with how gorgeous it was. I ended up taking home The Birth of Venus by Botticelli, and I’ll have to donate it at some point in the coming days.
May 3

Saturdays have quickly developed a tradition for me in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and that is because it means that K.K. Slider has come to my island and it is time to hear him play. This week, I, Lulu, Hugo, and Camofrog all heard him play K.K. Synth!
It was really relaxing, and I heard it right before I crashed out for the night into my bed.
May 4

Becky taught me the Thought Reaction today! I also had a visitor to my island, Sylvia. I kept inviting her to come stay permanently. I’m guessing the limit on islanders is a true HARD limit, as she would say “I would love to move here! BUT ACTUALLY NAH!”. It was ridiculous.
Finally, I stopped down by Dodo Airlines and took a plane ride from Orville on the May Day Ticket that was advertised a few days ago. It turned out that the May Day event was an island maze for me to solve!
I had to eat oranges, dig up trees, build a ladder, break rocks, eat more oranges, and make my way slowly around the map to my final destination…Which turned out to be Rover! Rover handed me a briefcase, which I was not expecting after having to reset the maze multiple times.
I was falling asleep during this maze process, honestly. I still don’t feel great.
May 5

First Cephalobot, and now Tybalt mentioned leaving my island today. I don’t know what is happening with everyone, and I am starting to feel guilty about asking people to please stay instead of going. Maybe I should turn them loose? I don’t want to FORCE anyone to stay on Renassia…
I tried to make things up with Cephalobot. I gave him a leftover Bunny Day basket that I had made, and I received a shirt with a striped vest in return. I always seem to be getting clothing as a gift. I’m not sure what that says about my fashion sense.
I visited Tom Nook, and we talked about the May Day maze event. He said it was maybe too easy for an adventurer of my skill, and then he thanked me again for everything I do for the community. It was honestly kind of sweet of him to say that, I wasn’t expecting it.
Finally, I started a new incline on the northern half of the island. It is going to be a grassy one that will hopefully blend in well with the rest of my island!
May 6

I…still wasn’t feeling great today.
I ended up just paying off the incline that I started yesterday. I had shaken down a couple of money trees that I had planted, and I was lucky enough to find the money rock for the day.
I need to figure out what to do with my inventory issue, though. I am capped out on house space, and I need to do something with all the things I have stored away. I really wish Animal Crossing: New Horizons was more generous with their storage space!
That will be a next week issue, I hope.
Did you do the May Day event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
How do you decide when it is time to let an islander go?
