This column week has represented some major upheaval in my offline life.
It’s weird and hard resetting my daily routine to be completely different than what I’ve grown accustomed to, and how I am now losing more and more free time because of it.
It was bad enough that I ended up not being able to put much time into Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Friday, Monday, or Tuesday because of it. In fact, I nearly forgot to play at all on Tuesday because I was just so tired and worn out from all the changes that are happening.
I also wish Nook’s Cranny could expand again…I would love more daily shopping options for me to work with in-game. My gym in the back room still only has one boxing corner, for example.

Today, I finally stopped in and checked out the Turnips price!
48 Bells. That…isn’t good.
I dug up some fossils and sold them before picking up a cup of coffee (which has the right amount of acidity and full-bodied flavor!) to enjoy today, too.
I play Animal Crossing: New Horizons less during some days than others and today was definitely one of those days.

Redd floated back to town today, and I finally found an authentic ‘Scary Painting’- also known as Actor Otani Oniji III as the Yakko Edobei by Sharaku. You can tell because the eyebrows actually look angry in the real painting, and the fake has eyebrows that look quite comical in comparison.
The price for Turnips slipped down to 41 Bells apiece today, and I passed on that.
The part that kills me about visiting Brewster’s Cafe today, though? When I ordered my coffee, he told me that he “[e]ven got [me] a clean cup.” That…should be standard for everyone who stops by, and not just a perk worth mentioning, right?
Right?
April 11

Rainy days are, at least for now, few and far between in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
When I saw that it was raining today, I whipped out my new panda umbrella and I spent the entire day more or less just chilling outside, enjoying the music and the rain noise. I ran around, talking to my other islanders who were dressed in raincoats and galoshes or carrying umbrellas, I dumped 50,000 Bells into the red zen bridge I am building, and I dug up more fossils.
I also planted a new money tree and bought bat wings from Kicks! I am going to save them, I think, for Halloween this year as I have an idea for a costume, already. Turnips also went down in value to 34 Bells, which is…awful. But I did buy a mirror for my home today!
Finally, I stopped by Brewster’s Cafe. Blathers stopped by while I was enjoying my hot coffee, and he encouraged me to take a break when I am feeling overwhelmed. He said it in the context about when visiting the museum, but I easily extrapolated it beyond that.
Finally, as I was exiting today, Brewster gave me some coffee beans as a way of saying ‘thank you’. I was extremely surprised, but quite thankful. I will have to plant them at some point soon.
Before I knew it, a real-life hour had passed, and I had to get moving to other things in my life. But I definitely do not regret playing today whatsoever.
April 12

Today was the Fishing Tournament with CJ! I’ve never done one before, and I was super excited to participate this time around.
I did multiple rounds of fishing, and it was a lot of fun. I caught a bunch of fish that I turned around and donated to my local museum, and I got enough points to win an anchor statue!
I was surprised at how profitable it could be, too. Each entry after the first one was only 500 Bells, and I easily cleared that with the catches I did. I was a little surprised that my fellow islanders weren’t truly competing against me for prizes, though, but I’m glad…since that left more fish for me!
April 13

It is one week until Bunny Day, and the island is in full preparation swing! I started hitting a rock today, and eggs came out! What am I supposed to do with random eggs?! I have no idea!
K. K. Slider also appeared for a special concert. While only me and Tybalt showed up, he was gracious enough to play K. K. Fugue for us both.
I also stopped by the Able Sisters shop, and Sable gave me a new pattern to use. She is always so joyous to give me things. It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when she really just didn’t want to talk with me at all.
Finally, I parked my anchor statue down by the waterfront. My hope is that a certain pelican who keeps washing up on my home will find it and can maybe cling to it as a landing marker for the next time he comes to visit.
April 14

I honestly didn’t do a whole lot today other than try to clear out my mailbox some more. I’m over two-thirds full at the moment, and so I’m selling off or storing pretty much everything that is a duplicate K.K Slider song or I don’t really need, since I can in theory buy it later on again. I really wish that Animal Crossing: New Horizons had a larger inbox storage space.
I didn’t even stop in for a cup of coffee, honestly…
April 15

Today, Gulivarrr washed up on my beach again! And I am guessing that my anchor statue that I won on Saturday helped, since he beached himself nearby it.
I went diving out into the ocean to try to find his (waterproof?) communicator, and it honestly took a while. I swam around nearly two-thirds of Renassia before I found it. When I returned it to him, he thanked me and promised to ship me something in the mail!
Other than that, I cleared a little more mail out and I dug up some fossils.
I really need to stop by for coffee again. I wonder if Brewster notices when I don’t come by?
