We here at oprainfall don’t just love video games: we’re big fans of anime, too. So in celebration of the medium, we’re here to give you our thoughts on what we’ve been watching each week as we watch it. Old, new – anything goes.

Love After World Domination
This episode gives a huge focus on the Gekko characters, with even Fudo having quite a limited role in it. The first part has us introduced to one of the Gekko Princesses who we haven’t seen before. She is not very expressive and keeps to herself, so Desumi decides to get her to meet up with the others. She sets up a meeting at her room where Kiki, Kyoko, and Hojo also attend. Like always, Kiki is the one who disagrees with Desumi’s plans and Hojo keeps her mask on to hide her identity as she clings even more to Desumi. Ran Ran appears using her disguise, which catches them off guard. There were some good moments during this part and it was good to have a focus on them. The second part of the episode has Desumi get sick as she was supposed to a book signing – one that Fudo is holding for his book on quite an interesting topic. She is brought to the nurse, who is another Gekko member, and this is where things take quite a turn. We were introduced briefly to Blood Princess before, but we see she is a bit unusual. To be honest, this part was kind of odd and Kyoko and Kiki set out to help Desumi, only to fail. Fudo ends up coming for Desumi and things are kind of are just settled despite how the situation was. I did like the slightly different opening with the sound effects, so for the next I hope they also do something somewhat different. – Walter

Ya Boy Kongming! (Paripi Kōmei)
Coming off of the last episode, Eiko is in front of a crowd that is pretty hostile to her due to what’s happened during what was supposed to be Azalea’s concert. Nanami calms things down a bit for Eiko to finally sing the song she’s been working on. The song itself is pretty good and of course it pulls in the crowd, allowing Eiko to get the likes she needs. While Eiko is successful, Nanami and her band decide to go back to how they started and played one of their old songs. We get to see more of Azalea’s producer, who we’ve seen as quite a harsh man, only to learn some more about him. While being strict, we see he actually does for care for them and want them to have success. Kongming of course plays a bit of a role in their reconciliation also. It was a nice episode to wind down on and I can only hope to see another season for this one in the future. – Walter

Anime of the Past
Macross Frontier
After getting tickets to the showing of the first Macross Frontier movie, I decided to watch some episodes of the series to get back into it. I have a copy of the series from another region (hopefully we get our own releases for it soon too) and decided to put it on. Frontier follows Alto, who wants to be a pilot, as he prepare to play a small part in an upcoming concert for Sheryl, who is quite a well-known singer. Then there is Ranka, a fan of Sheryl’s, who also desires to be a singer. With the appearance of creatures called Vajra causing chaos, Frontier has quite a few hallmarks of the series, such as a love triangle and some good music. The design of the VF-25 fighters are good and the dogfights and battles are great. There of course some good comedic moments peppered around and the side characters are not bad either in my opinion. It had been a while since I watched this so I’m glad to have gone back to it. – Walter
