We here at oprainfall don’t just love video games: we’re big fans of anime, too. So in celebration of the medium, we’re here to give you our thoughts on what we’ve been watching each week as we watch it. Old, new – anything goes.

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon
My love-hate relationship with Yashahime continues with season 2, which I’ve finally gotten around to watching (both because I can never turn down a chance to see Sesshoumaru, and to write for these oprainfall anime reviews). It’s about five episodes in but I’ve only caught the first episode, which begins immediately where season 1 left off. The animation continues to be hit and miss, and I can say I didn’t worry overmuch about Setsuna’s fate or whether Towa could actually wield the Tenseiga. Then again, that’s not why I watch this show. I watch it for the snippets of Sesshoumaru and the interactions of the girls, though I have to admit the world-building is at least beginning to pick up. I fully admit that Yashahime is a mediocre anime but it’s my kind of mediocre anime, and it’s an easy, digestible piece of media when I just want to sit back and enjoy something stupid. – Leah

86 EIGHTY-SIX (2nd Cour)
This week in 86 EIGHTY-SIX, the story once again leaves the battlefield. We learn more about the “main” Legion in this half of the story, Kiriya Nouzen. While he has the same last name as Shinei, the two are not related. Kiriya was Frederica’s guardian, and he protected her until he became insane, after he thought Frederica died, and let the Legion take his head. I appreciate that they gave more insight into who Kiriya used to be before he became a Legion. It was interesting learning the events that led to his change and why Frederica feels responsible for his current form. Another interesting thing that came out of this episode was seeing how the Federacy of Giad has this strange obsession with being better than the Republic of San Magnolia. The Federacy seems to think that because they do things differently and that they “treat people better,” they’re gonna do better fighting against the Legion. I feel like this way of thinking is going to be the Federacy’s undoing in this war. The Legion do not care about how you treat others or if you take things more seriously. They will swarm you and take your head. I’m hoping the Federacy wises up before it’s too late. Anyways, though this episode did not have any action, it was still interesting because of the two things I mentioned. Also, it looks like Lena makes her return in the next episode, so I can’t wait for next week. – Patrick

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!
This time on The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!, we start off with Jahy and an easily found mana crystal on the street. Instead of running right in as we may think, suspicions are raised at its ease. As she begins to imagine it being a trap from the magical girl, Jahy then rushes for it as the manager goes for it. Turning out to have just been laying there, Jahy made an easy win much more difficult. After that we get to see Jahy with Kokoro at a park searching for crystals. While they are her main goal she instead gets distracted by the things in the park, which she thinks Kokoro would like. You can tell how important a friend she is to Jahy even if she doesn’t want to admit it. Jahy causes trouble when she threatens two men she thinks are going after Kokoro and gets into a chase with police. The scenes with her using the playground equipment to evade police were great. Lastly, we see Saurva, who also had a plan fail terribly. In her case she plans on making a potion to turn Jahy into a dog, which she immediately drinks accidently. She ends up acting like a dog and gets out into the street where she plays with Jahy and gets a moment with the landlord. This episode actually had Jahy finding a mana crystal, but the main thing was how you can tell some of her priorities have changed. She went to grab the crystal while thinking it was dangerous as the manager was going for it. There were also the times where she wanted to protect Kokoro and give her things that she liked instead of focusing on the crystals. She’s starting to care about others more. Then there was Saurva who saw the good sides of Jahy and the landlord. – Walter
