The year is 2021 in Coffee Noir, and you are detective Arthur Oliver, who must return to Neo-London. In this alternative future, the world is ruled by coffee, which can make it very valuable indeed. But alas, not all is well. You’ll have to work undercover as a coffee salesmen while solving a mysterious crime that targeted one of the main coffee businessmen in the city (a man named Richard)! As Arthur, you’ll need to gain the trust of the tycoons of the coffee industry to find important clues in the case.
Coffee Noir is inspired by classic American comic books, with its 40’s – retro-style interiors, and smooth jazz music. The game combines detective novel and business management game with 2D graphics and a comic book style. The story unfolds via interactive comics with full voice overs and sound effects. The game adds to the atmosphere with a jazz music soundtrack, while giving the world a retro-futuristic feeling. Coffee Noir is set to launch on Steam sometime in the fourth quarter of 2020 according to the press release. Here is the game trailer:
The business simulation side of the game is deeper than you may think, with a complex economic engine. This engine was designed by professional economists and academics and includes actual market functions. You’ll take part in managing your team, handling production, investing in promotion, and hopefully keeping your budget out of the red!
The game is being developed by DOJI and NAOS Software. You can find out more about Coffee Noir at the official website, or at its Steam page, where you can also add the game to your wishlist to make sure you don’t forget it. Lastly, here are a few comics and screenshots from the game:
