Third Éditions has launched a new Kickstarter campaign to bring three new books about monumental anime and manga to the West.
The French publishing house has released 17 books about video games into English — including two acclaimed volumes of Dark Souls: Beyond the Grave and The Strange Works of Taro Yoko: From Drakengard to NieR: Automata — but this is its first foray into the world of animation. Third Éditions is looking to publish three works on Akira, Berserk, and anime superstar Hayao Miyazaki. Each book will look at the genesis of each work (or in Miyazaki’s case, works), with in-depth analysis on themes, aesthetic, and more.
So far, the campaign has raised $48,000 toward its $65,000 goal. Backers can begin receiving digital copies of the book if they pledge $14, with first print collector editions beginning at $32 for one book of choice. Those who want all three books will need to pledge at least $77. There’s also a Kickstarter exclusive three-book box set that begins at $108. Those who have a particular passion for Akira, Berserk, or Miyazaki’s works can pledge $1,090 and have their respective book dedicated to them. And for the diehard book fan, there’s the final tier for $5,449 that will net you a lifetime’s worth of Third Éditions books, so long as the company continues printing. This tier includes all previous books released by the company.
The estimated delivery date for ebooks is October 2020, with a November 2020 release date for physical editions.
The Kickstarter campaign runs through April 9, 2020.
