2018: Persona Dancing: Endless Night Collection
When it comes to music games, 2019 wasn’t exactly brimming with options. But we here at oprainfall did have one game that struck a chord with us — and plenty of others, too. It’s a hybrid of a iconic series and a lesser known rhythm game series, and it just so happens to be an exclusive on the Nintendo Switch. That game is the only contender for Best Music Game in 2019, and it’ll put a spring in your step.

Cadence of Hyrule is one of those gems that you wonder why it wasn’t made sooner. The Legend of Zelda series has some (ahem) legendary music, and what better way to showcase the iconic works of Koji Kondo than through a rhythm game?
Developed by Brace Yourself Games and published by Nintendo, this roguelike adventure pairs the Legend of Zelda with Crypt of the NecroDancer, a rhythm-based dungeon crawler. Adventuring as either Link, Zelda, or the titular Cadence, players navigated through levels filled with Zelda-series monsters and backed by 25 familiar songs from the game, remixed for Cadence by Danny Baranowsky. The game features single and multi-player modes and the procedurally-generated dungeons offer plenty of replayability.
