A new holiday trailer put out by Nintendo of Europe gives a friendly reminder that there are over 1,000 games available on Nintendo Switch. As the three minute trailer shows, there is something for everybody, from broader fare like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, to the mature, hardcore games like Diablo III Eternal Collection and Dark Souls Remastered.

The 1,000 game total comes from both retail and eShop releases combined. To put this number in perspective, the Nintendo Switch has amassed more games in 18 months than the Wii U did in its entire lifetime.
Here are some numbers to shed light on the comparison:
- Wii U: 762 since November 2012 (worldwide)
- Nintendo GameCube: 658 since November 2001
- Nintendo 64: 389 since June 1996
- Nintendo Entertainment System: 714 since October 1985 (does not include Famicom totals)
Of all Nintendo home consoles, only the Wii and Super NES/Super Famicom have more games than the Switch, at a whopping 1529 games on Wii and 1757 on Super NES/Famicom. With a long life ahead, the Switch’s success promises even more games to come in 2019 and beyond.
The Switch’s library actually hit 1,000 games back in August 2018, closely eclipsing the number of games on 3DS (1,254 in seven years).
