According to this year’s cover of the 24th issue of Hana to Yume magazine, a new anime is on the way for the Fruits Basket manga. The announcement features the text “Zenpen” which translates to “the entire story.” The magazine is set to ship on November 20.
Fruits Basket was written by Natsuki Takaya from 1998 to 2006 and published in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine. It is currently licensed for release in North America by Yen Press. Yen Press re-released the manga with updated translations in 2016. The story is described by Yen Press as follows:
After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out…into a tent! Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac!
The manga previously inspired a 26-episode anime adaptation by Studio DEEN in 2001. This anime is licensed for release in North America by Funimation.
