I’m a bit more excited than usual for today’s Nintendo Download. Why, you may be asking? Well, quite simply because a game I’ve wanted to check out since the Switch launched is finally out! Besides that, there is a new My Nintendo promotion, featuring discounts and wallpapers, as well as new digital content and sales. So let’s start with the game that has me so pumped this morning.
Pocket Rumble feels like it was announced forever ago. And maybe that’s because it’s been delayed for so very long. I was caught by the simplistic yet colorful art style, and that design choice permeates the combat as well, since everything is done with only a couple attack buttons. That may sound too easy, but I see it as a lite Smash inspired experience, which is exciting. Doesn’t hurt that Pocket Rumble also brings back nostalgia for the good old SNK Neo Geo Pocket days of mayhem. The other game should excite fans of RPGs, especially since it was originally only released in Japan. Shining Resonance Refrain is a JRPG about dragons and the beautiful Princess Excella. This version of the game features previously unplayable characters, and it looks gorgeous. If that sounds good, stay tuned as it releases next week.
Next up, there’s some good new sales this week. If you like Viking mayhem, you might enjoy Die For Valhalla! (Switch) for only $9.95; for something quirky and different, give a look to Where Are My Friends? (Switch) for $4.79; for hardcore RPG adventure, The Alliance Alive (3DS) is discounted a bit to $29.99; for frenetic mayhem, Bleed (Switch) is pretty cheap at $4.07; for a beautiful SHMUP, Sine Mora EX (Switch) is down to $11.99; for a charming puzzle game, Pan-Pan (Switch) is only $4; to keep the Wii U alive, both Poncho and Tumblestone (Wii U) are cheap at $4.99 and $7.49, respectively; for chibi diva fun, Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX (3DS) is only $15.99; for a quirky RPG adventure, Citizens of Earth (3DS) isn’t bad at $4.49; and lastly, get your demon hunting fix with a trio of titles – Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (3DS) for $14.99, Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS) for $11.99 and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked (3DS) for $14.99. Pretty good assortment of titles, and you can find even more here.
If you love adventure, then you’ll appreciate July My Nintendo is focusing on the release of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on both 3DS and Switch. In honor of that release, there are new wallpapers (pictured above), as well as discounts on a variety of games, ranging from 30-50% off. Just click here to see the games available.
Lastly, we’ll close out with some wonderful new digital offerings. The first handful is out next week sometime, and there’s a wide variety of genres. There’s the rogue platforming of 20XX (stay tuned for our official review later on), adventure with Another World, and even boxing with Pato Box. As if that wasn’t enough, these also release next week sometime – Bomber Crew, Muddledash, Neverout and The Lion’s Song. The rest are all out this week.
To get your retro gaming fix, ACA NEOGEO has Samurai Showdown V. For some puzzling fun, you should check out Burnstar and Yuso. For some aquatic wonder, try out Squids Odyssey. In the mood for frenetic gameplay? Check out Survive! MR. CUBE and Ultra Space Battle Brawl. For platforming fun, you might enjoy Miles & Kilo. And finally, for fans of adventure games, there’s both the 3rd chapter of The Journey Down and The Wardrobe. Pretty good selection of games this week. Tune in to oprainfall next time for the latest batch of games courtesy of the Nintendo Download.
