It’s the first Nintendo Download of April, and they have it packed with interesting titles. There are great indie games, demos of newly released 3DS titles, sales and the usual new digital fare. So I’ll stop wasting time and get right to the good stuff!
I normally am not a fan of sports themed games, especially ones that involve doing fancy tricks on bikes or motorcycles. The one exception is the Urban Trial series. I tried the version on the 3DS, and was shocked how much I enjoyed it. There’s a lot of fun to be had in doing crazy tricks, making your own tracks and more, so I’m happy to see the series is moving their crazy stunts to the Switch in Urban Trial Playground. This iteration of the series will take place in sunny California, so you can do amazing stunts in the blazing sun. Another cool game that is now available on the Switch is The Adventure Pals. The title might not sound that creative, but the gameplay itself and the art style look quite compelling. So much that I actually backed it on Kickstarter to get a Steam copy! While I would certainly prefer it on Switch, either way the game will provide crazy capers involving a boy and his pet giraffe. Lastly, if you are interested in Detective Pikachu but aren’t sure if it’s worth your time, you can try out the special demo, showing you the first chapter of the newly released 3DS game.
On the sales front, the Game Guide has plenty of interesting offerings. ARMS (Switch) is still discounted to $41.99; the fantastic SMT IV: Apocalypse (3DS) is down to $24.99; newly released Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder Devastated (Switch) is quite affordable at $4.99; the creepy Layers of Fear: Legacy (Switch) is $16.99; chibi Metroidvania Xeodrfiter (Switch) is a must buy at only $4.99; Aperion Cyberstorm (Switch) might be worth the investment for only $13.49; if you hanker for platforming, Super One More Jump (Switch) isn’t bad at $5.60; ChromaGun (Switch) is pretty cheap at $13.99; Nuclien (Switch) is too cheap not to buy at $1.99; Black The Fall (Switch) looks interesting for $8.99; the oddly titled duo of Red Game Without a Great Name (Switch) and Green Game: TimeSwapper (Switch) are super affordable at $1.49; if you love gunning hordes of monsters down, you should pick up Crimsonland (Switch) for $9.37; Perception (Switch) might be worth a look for $9.99; Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth (3DS) is pretty cheap at $23.99; if you like artsy games, Pan-Pan (Switch) is a no brainer at $4; Eliminage Original (3DS) isn’t bad for half off at $9.99; if you want a simple puzzle title, Swap Blocks (Wii U) might be worth $2.49; the charming Gurumin 3D (3DS) is a must own for $9.99; for something strange, check out Reptilian Rebellion (Wii U) for $1.49; Grumpy Reaper (Wii U) looks interesting for $2.49 and finally, Alphadia (3DS) is hard to resist for $4.99. That’s a lot of good sales, though you can read the full list by clicking here.
Finally, we’ll close out like usual with newly releasing digital fare. These first 5 games are coming out a little bit later – Bombslinger, The Bunker, Deep Ones, Masters of Anima and Super Daryl Deluxe. Of those, you can look forward to future coverage of Bombslinger (spoiler alert, it’s good!). The following are all games out today or tomorrow.
If you crave retro, there are three options this week – ACA NEOGEO Samurai Showdown III and Arcade Archives has two classics in Ninja-Kid and Punch-Out!! If you want some horror on your Switch, you might want to check out Infernium. For those who like gaming with others, there is Super Rocket Shootout and Octocopter: Double or Squids. If you love classics with new twists, check out Lode Runner Legacy. For some unorthodox platforming, try Sally’s Law and Sling Ming. And finally, if you enjoy digital board games, you might enjoy Sumer. Not a bad assortment of games, I’d say. Make sure to check back with oprainfall next Thursday for the latest Nintendo Download, chock full of indie goodness!
