Bandai Namco Entertainment has released more screenshots and information for their upcoming game, Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet. The new information details the different functions of your ArFA-sys companion and the different weapons, skills and gadgets you’ll come across in the game.

About ArFA-sys
A humanoid android found on the “SBC Fluegel” space ship. The protagonist’s ArFA-sys is equipped with a special “Type X” AI that allows it to think and provide a variety of different supports.
The ArFA-sys can’t become stronger than its master. It will transform depending on the growth of the protagonist. The protagonist can freely customize the ArFA-sys’ appearance and gender to whatever they prefer.
In order to progress in the story, there are some quests that cannot advance unless you bring the ArFA-sys along too. The protagonist and ArFA-sys will grow together while being forced to make “decisions.”
ArFA-sys’ Four Functions
The player can talk with the ArFA-sys and utilize various functions while in their room. The functions unlock based on your progression in the story.
Money Management System
- Your ArFA-sys will automatically collect money gained through battle and invest it in order to make a profit. The player can set the amount of money deposited and the rate of interest it will be invested. Use the function wisely and become rich!
AI Settings
- The player can set the actions their ArFA-sys takes in battle. You can make them a front-line war machine or you can make them a support focused on recovery. What your ArFA-sys does is up to you!
Color Coordination
- The player can change the color of ArFA-sys’ equipment. They can change the color of their clothes and even weapons and accessories. Make your ArFA-sys the most fashionable one around!
Emotion Settings
- You can also set the emotional expressions of your ArFA-sys. You can choose from Simple and Detailed settings while setting the emotions. Your ArFA-sys will react with different emotions when you meet a friend, during battle, and when you clear a quest.
Weapons Overview
Sub Machine Gun
Recommended range: Short and Middle distance
The SMG is a good and balanced weapon that is lightweight and easy to handle. It can hold a lot of ammo and can pack quite a punch. Use this weapons to shower enemies with a merciless attack.
Gatling Gun
Recommended range: Middle and Long distance
The Gatling Gun is a heavyweight-class weapon. Your weight will easily go over-capacity while equipped with it so take caution when using it. It can launch a concentrated attack on enemies with rapid speed. Definitely a weapon to look out for.
Grenade Launcher
Recommended range: Middle and Long distance
The grenade launcher can launch devastating attacks while the player stays in cover due to the curving trajectory of the grenade. You can launch devastating attacks on large groups of enemies while maintaining your distance. Another weapon, to look out for.
Skills Overview
Skill Settings
Skills can be acquired by the use of SP (Skill Points). Skills can be set for each weapon and there are skills that can be used across all weapon types. There are also unique skills that can only be used for certain weapons.
Attack-Type Skills
An introduction to some of the skills that can deal major damage to an enemy.
Quick Shot
Supported Weapon: Handgun
Continuously fire bullets at a nearby enemy.
Gun Sting
Supported Weapon: Shotgun/Assault Rifle
Performs a high-speed rush towards the target, and adds on a shooting attack if it hits.
Horizontal Square
Supported Weapon: Sword/Gun and Sword
After unleashing four consecutive sword attacks at the target, mows down a wide range with a square shockwave.
Buff-Style Skills
An introduction to skills that buff your character. These include skills that strengthen your attack or defense power or heal your allies.
Shield Matrix
Supported Weapons: All Weapon Types
You cannot move while using this, but you will not receive damage. The amount of time it lasts can be extended by long-pressing the button.
Healing Area Bullet
Supported Weapons: All Weapons except Swords
Generates a recovery area at the site of impact, and allies who touch the area will recover HP.
Debuff-Style Skills
An introduction to skills that can inflict foes with status ailments. These include ones such as poison, blaze, stun among others.
Blaze Bullet
Supported Weapons: Hand Gun / Shotgun / Sub Machine Gun / Assault Rifle / Gatling Gun / Gun & Sword
Fires a special bullet that generates a fire area after an explosion occurs at the impact site, and inflicts an abnormal blaze state accumulation effect.
Poison Gas Bomb
Supported Weapons: Hand Gun / Shotgun / Sub Machine Gun / Assault Rifle / Gatling Gun / Gun & Sword
Fires a special bullet that generates a poison area at the impact site, and inflicts an abnormal poison state accumulation effect on the enemies it touched.
Gravity Field Generator Bullet
Supported Weapons: Gatling Gun / Launcher
Fires a special bullet that generates a gravity field that sucks in enemies at the impact site.
Gadgets Overview
The player can set up to four gadgets to a palette for use in battle. Gadgets can include items such as grenades, recovery kits, traps and so on. Some items require higher stat values for DEX and other things.
Frag Grenade
Throws “a grenade that explodes in about three seconds after throwing” in a parabolic orbit. It is extremely effective against humanoid enemies and enemy players, and is also a good countermeasure against the harder parts of monsters.
Smoke Grenade
Throws “a smoke grenade that generates a smoke field that obstructs the field of vision three seconds after throwing” in a parabolic orbit. While it does not have power to deal damage, it is useful in many circumstances, such as to evade enemy attacks, to distract the enemy, or to send a signal.
Emergency Care Kit
Increases HP recovery power for a fixed period of time. Unlike skill recovery bullets, it does not recover HP all at once, but rather gradually within the effect period.
Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is developed by Dimps and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is set to release on February 8 in Japan and February 23, 2018 in North America and Europe for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
