Bandai Namco has announced an all-new action RPG entitled Code Vein, due to home consoles in 2018. Developed internally by Bandai Namco Games, Code Vein features anime vampires in a post-apocalyptic war zone. The game’s first trailer displays the frantic, grueling action, reminiscent of the publisher’s own Dark Souls franchise.
At the center of Code Vein are the Revenants, the survivors of an apocalyptic event that wiped out most of humanity. This group of survivors made a pact giving them superpowers and blood lust (just as vampires do), on a quest to regain their lost memories. You’ll be pitted against super-sized creatures using a custom character, also in the vein of Dark Souls, now with a partner character by your side.
Befitting of the game’s vampire-inspired identity, you’ll absorb the blood of your enemies via Blood Veils in order to power up your abilities, or “Gifts” that can weaken enemies, increase strength, and use overpowered attacks. A variety of weaponry including bayonets, axes and spears are at your disposal to clear out the society of Vein of its beasts.
Code Vein is due for what Bandai Namco describes as the “major home consoles”, which should infer PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The development staff includes Keita Iizuka, Hiroshi Yoshimura, and Yusuke Tomizawa, all of whom previously worked on the God Eater series. Development is around 35 percent complete to date, a long time off from its expected 2018 release.
