If you’re looking for something fun where you can interact with people who come from all over the world who have the same interests you do, whether it is music, alternate history, or the brand new Epic Fantasy track for 2017, then you will find a place at Dragon Con. Last year, more than 77,000 people descended onto downtown Atlanta for the Long Labor Day weekend to celebrate a world filled with pop culture, sci-fi, video games, anime, literature, filk, and much more. And every year, the convention keeps getting bigger and it keeps becoming more and more fun.
Over the past two years, Operation Rainfall has been reporting from the convention floor, doing interviews and tweeting out photos of some of the amazing cosplay that the convention is renown for. In 2015, I interviewed several cosplayers (Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, and Part Five) and last year I interviewed Shinji Aramaki, a world-renown anime director and mech designer best known for his work in the Transformers, Appleseed, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Gundam franchises.
This year’s Dragon Con convention will be taking place over Labor Day weekend from September 1 to September 4, 2017. The cost of attending Dragon Con 2017 is currently just 100 USD dollars through February 10, 2017, for the full length of the convention. So if you’re on the fence on whether or not to go, now is the time to just take the plunge and sign up before the price goes up!
Note: I have reached out to Dragon Con for information about what the price will be increased to beyond 2/10/17, and I will update this article when I get a response.
