It was reported by Yomiuri that on April 7, Japanese government has created a policy to revise the copyright laws to combat and take down a “Reach-Site” that is providing links for illegal anime and movie uploads. The Government’s goal is to take down the site, remove it from search results and arrest the owners.
This “Reach-Site” is not uploading or selling the content, in fact their profits actually come from ads on the pages. However due to the large amount of illegal content being viewed via those sites, the Japanese Government has finally decided to start taking action. In 2014 Japanese film, manga and anime piracy is responsible for causing about $2.5 billion in damages which was more than double the revenue from legitimate distribution methods(about $1.1 billion) according to this page.
