The latest issue of Famitsu provided some new information for THE iDOLM@STER game which was announced back in 2013. The issue included details on the newest entry as well as an interview with a producer of the series, Youzou Sakagami.

The newest game in the series will be titled THE iDOLM@STER PLATINUM STARS.  The game is set to launch in 2016 for the PS4 in Japan.

PLATINUM STARS will once again focus on the idols from 765 Productions. The player will take the role of a new producer for 765 Production. The story will take place during a training camp with the 13 idols from the company. The player must deepen their bonds with the idols and lead them to become top idols.

THE iDOLM@STER PLATINUM STARS will also take advantage of the PS4’s hardware allowing for the idols to have completely redone models and improved facial expressions.

You can check out more information for the game below, as well as some details from the interview with the producer. (Provided by Hachima Kikou, translation from Gematsu)

General

  • The idols’ character models have been completely redone to take advantage of the PlayStation 4 hardware. Facial expressions have been remarkably improved.
  • Camera work is dynamic during concert scenes, and the shaking of the audience waving of pen lights have been drastically powered up.
  • Players work hard as a new producer at 765 Production. At the training camp where the story is set, you’l live alongside the game’s 13 idols while deepening your bonds with them and leading them to become top idols.
  • There are, of course, familiar idols. A visual featuring the game’s 13 idols is published in the magazine.
  • At the training camp, you’ll be able to view the idols while deciding the contents of their work. There’s a “Stage For You” element being prepared that lets you freely arrange the stage.
  • Concerts follow a rhythm game system. As you succeed, you’ll rank up.

Producer Youzou Sakagami Interview

  • Since it’s been five years since The Idolmaster 2, The Idolmaster logo has been completely redone. There is the sense of a fresh start.
  • The span of the camera work has been expanded. You’ll be able to see a maximum of 50,000 pen lights in the audience.
  • A technology called “Variable Tune” was developed for this game.
  • The idols have been completely remodeled and have a sense of softness to them.
  • While the personalities of the idols won’t change much from normal, since the producer meets them for the first time at a training camp in this game, not every idol is open-minded. Chihaya Kisaragi, for example, may seem cold at first.
  • This game is set in a world parallel to the series so far. The girls of 765 Production that made their idol debut aren’t very popular. Therefore, President Junjirou Takagi proposes a training camp, and the story begins from there.
  • Development is 60 percent complete.
