The Custom Hydra Splatling made its Splatoon debut today, as you can see in the images above. It brings the game’s weapon count up to 74, but it turns out to also be the final new free DLC weapon being added to the game. This is according to a tweet put out by Nintendo of America late yesterday.
We should probably mention that the Custom Hydra Splatling will be the last weapon added to #Splatoon.
It is not known whether this is the end of all DLC for Splatoon, but we know the end is probably not far off. Nintendo had previously announced that they would continue to support Splatoon with new DLC items including weapons, maps, and gear through January of 2016. We now find ourselves right in the middle of January 2016, so it seems the end of Splatoon DLC is near either way. It’s possible the game could still get a few new bits of gear or a new map before the end of the month, but time will tell.
This makes 74 weapons in total in #Splatoon. We’re sure you’ve got a few you’ve never tried, right? pic.twitter.com/ODAW2olLTQ

One of Nintendo of America’s handful of Splatoon tweets late yesterday also points out that three of the 74 weapons can only be obtained through amiibo challenges. For those who don’t have the Splatoon amiibo (myself included), there are equivalent versions of these weapons that can be obtained in the game without the Splatoon amiibo figures.
All there is to do now is fire up the game, get your hands (or tentacles) on the Custom Hydra Splatling, and go kick some Inkling butt!
