A quick PSA for all you Resident Evil fans out there. Today, Capcom announced at their community site Capcom-Unity that Resident Evil 0 HD would be launching on January 19th, 2016 in North America and three days later in Europe. It’s coming for Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC for the wholly affordable price of $19.99/ £15.99. For those not in the know, Resident Evil 0 was a prequel title originally released for the Nintendo Gamecube way back on November 12, 2002. It later saw a ‘motion control lite’ port release on the Nintendo Wii on July 10, 2008 in Japan and in December of 2009 and January 2010 in the rest of the world.
Now you non-Nintendo owners get to experience this overlooked gem in the series, and you’re getting the best possible version with full HD visuals and sound and an all new modern control scheme for those of you that couldn’t grasp and/or stand the tank mechanics (don’t worry, tank style is in there for the traditionalists.) Additionally, they’ve added a new ‘Wesker mode’ where you can play as the series villain and, perhaps, it’s most iconic character.
Those of you who preorder will receive some nice alternate costumes as a bonus for early adoption. For Rebecca, you get to run around in a Capcom themed cheerleader outfit as well as a Resident Evil 0 T-shirt. As for Billy, he gets to don Wolf Force gear that’s a cross between Rambo and Ikari Warriors. The costumes are really just a fun bit of fan service given to early adopters as a ‘thank you’ from Capcom. Fair warning, however. These bonus costumes will NOT be available on the Xbox 360 build.
Also, for those of you that prefer physical media, they’ll be releasing Resident Evil Origins Collection, which bundles both Resident Evil 0 HD and Resident Evil HD (which was launched in the west earlier this year via digital distribution.) Here is a trailer announcing the costumes so you can see them in action.
