Yesterday, rumors floated around that Konami had closed its Los Angeles Studio facility, where Metal Gear Online was being worked on, as well as part of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s development. Eurogamer has confirmed the story as of this morning, sourcing a company email statement sent to Polygon, which reads as follows:
Konami has made the decision to close its Los Angeles Studio, effective immediately, due to the product development resources being restructured into a more centralized unit.
This facility contributed to the recent Metal Gear Solid games. Konami will continue its operations to support all Metal Gear Solid titles, including the recently launched Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Online. Metal Gear Online is still scheduled to release for PC Steam in January 2016.
This doesn’t appear to be the end of Metal Gear. Recall back in March that Konami was looking to add staff for a new Metal Gear title, so as far as we know, there’s still plans for another entry in the series. Whether it will include Hideo Kojima or not remains to be seen.
