A new teaser website opened up recently. The website opening came with the announcement of a new Gundam anime. The anime will be an adaptation of Yasuo Ohtagaki’s Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt. The website lists anime studio Sunrise as well as Gundam copyright holder, Sotsu Agency. No further details were released about the adaptation.
Gundam Thunderbolt is set in the Universal Century, specifically in UC 0079, at the same time as the One Year War from the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime. In centers around two pilots from the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon. The story mainly takes place in the “Thunderbolt Sector,” a shoal zone filled with the ruins of numerous space colonies and wrecked warships. The two primary characters are Earth Federation pilot Io Flemming and Principality of Zeon pilot Daryl Lorenz. You can check out illustrations of the two characters below.
The original Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt manga is authored by Yasuo Ohtagaki. The manga was first published by Shogakukan in their Big Comic Superior magazine in March 2012. The manga currently has 6 volumes published.
The Gundam Thunderbolt anime is set to be produced by Sunrise. Gundam Thunderbolt will be the first TV anime set in the Universal Century since Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, which was broadcast in 1993.
