As 2016 approaches, fans have been waiting to learn more about this highly anticipated title. Zelda‘s head developer Eiji Aonuma has come forward with a few details regarding the game’s environment. He said that he wants the Wii U title to be open world, and is building upon feedback that Nintendo received from Skyward Sword for the Wii. Many players came forth stating that Skyward Sword lacked the bigger, open world that they desired. Aonuma acknowledged that he wants to fix that for the upcoming title, but that he’s hoping to put in some sort of surprise or twist to the open world mechanic. Unfortunately, he would not go into further detail about it at this time. Aonuma also confirmed that while the development team does read a lot of the feedback that their games receive, not all suggestions can be implemented.
“If we put all the feedback the fans write directly into the game, there won’t be an element of surprise,” he said. “If there’s a comment and they’re asking for certain element, I would think, ‘Oh, why not interpret this in a different way that you wouldn’t expect?’ That’s how we create a new element in a Zelda game. I always want to implement something new and surprising into every game.“
The game is still set to release on the Wii U, and will be released sometime in 2016.
