2015 is a very amazing year for games announcements. On the evening where Final Fantasy VII and The Last Guardian are part of the Sony Press Conference, Yu Suzuki took to the stage and announced that a Kickstarter for Shenmue III launched for release in 2017 on PlayStation 4 and PC.
The original Shenmue launched on the SEGA Dreamcast at the end of 1999 in Japan and in America in November 2000, while Shenmue II only came out in America on the Xbox in 2002. It was among the first open-world games with huge and realistic environments. Its story was left unfinished due to the commercial struggles of the franchise.
The Kickstarter is asking for a whopping $2 million dollars, but at the time this post is being written, it’s gotten close to $1,000,000 bucks. It seems like a safe bet this gets funded. The pledge for the game is $29 dollars, which seems low. Most likely, the studio has outside funding, and the Kickstarter is for gauging fan interest. As previous campaigns for Mighty No. 9 and Bloodstained show, people really are nostalgic for these series. Let us know in the comments if you are looking forward to concluding Ryo’s quest.
