After a few days of rumors and speculation following some leaks, Square Enix has officially confirmed the release date for Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below to be October 13, 2015.
Also unveiled today is a special Slime Collector’s Edition, which includes a Slime plushie, Slime keychain and Slime lanyard, along with Slime-themed DLC equipment–such as the Slime Sword, Gooey Gloves, Goomerang, Goopid’s Bow, Squishing Rod, Gungenir, Slime-on-a-Stick, Gooreat Sword, and Splat O’Nine Tails–as well as bonus quest items like the Gold-Digger’s Map and the Happy Map. This Collector’s Edition costs $99.99 and is available for pre-order now exclusively at the Square Enix Online Store.
In addition to that, there is a Day One Edition of the game that will include the Slime-themed DLC above.
The story of Dragon Quest Heroes centers around the hero Luceus, or the heroine Aurora, who must combine forces with heroes from past entries in the Dragon Quest franchise to stop the once-peaceful monsters who were driven into a frenzy by a dark shockwave and restore peace to the Kingdom.
Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below will be released in North America exclusively for the PlayStation 4. In Japan, it was released for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on February 26 and sold almost 600,000 copies its first week. Hopefully, it’ll spark enough interest in the series that Square Enix will consider bringing over some of the other Dragon Quest titles, like the 3DS remakes for Dragon Quest VII, VIII and the two Monsters games, the Rocket Slime games or the recently-released Theatrhythm Dragon Quest. Hey, one can dream, right?
