Street Fighter V | oprainfall

Earlier today, a blog post on Capcom Unity appeared to have let the cat out of the bag as it concerned the release date of Street Fighter V for the Playstation 4 and PC. The post indicated a spring 2016 release for the highly-anticipated fighting game. While this is pretty far off, it’s easy to understand the reason for the long wait time. Fighting games, especially Capcom fighters, undergo rigorous playtesting and constant tweaking in order to make them ready for public consumption. This process of refinement extends well beyond the launch date, as Street Fighter fans well know from all the patches and newer versions with added content and characters. Still, a release date of spring 2016 is better than not knowing, right?

“Not so fast,” says Capcom. The Unity blog post was pulled down and Capcom issued a statement to GameSpot stating that it wasn’t confirmed for spring 2016, and no official announcements have been made yet. As for why the announcement was  pulled, it’s possibly because Capcom would rather have a definitive release date in mind and then promote that date heavily than allow a speculative comment from a Unity blog run wild and take on a life of its own on the internet and social media.

Still, even with this information cast out and then reeled back, this fighting game fan is looking forward to seeing what Yoshinori Ono and his staff can do with the next iteration of the Street Fighter franchise.
