So, in case it wasn’t readily apparent, I am a new convert to the religion of Vita. And while I haven’t forsaken my Nintendo roots, and still hold a fond place in my heart for my 3DS and Wii U, I am quickly becoming a giant fan of Sony. On the PlayStation Blog today the developer of Axiom Verge, Tom Happ, revealed some more details about the upcoming game. After comparing it to classic games like Contra, Master Blaster and Super Metroid, touting exploration, powerups and epic bosses, he went into further detail about some of the cool powerups that will be available in the game. First the Nova was discussed, which is the standard shot that can be fired two ways. Either you can shoot it straight forward very slowly, or make it detonate into a burst shot. Second is a multipurpose Drill weapon that can fell enemies as well as burrow through tunnels. Last but certainly not least is the Disruptor, which was inspired by Game Genies of yore. It can basically cause every enemy to glitch out, leading to tons of ways to explore your environment. The last item revealed was a curious looking drone type weapon that had no details revealed…
Though Tom kept his lips sealed regarding the exact nature of the alien environment you explore, he did reveal Axiom Verge will hit PS4 March 31st for $19.99. While the release date for the Vita version is yet unannounced, it is coming, and those who buy it on their PS4 can benefit from cross-buy functionality.
