We pick episode 4 up exactly where we left off in episode 3, with Nonoka feeling completely bummed after being slapped for the second time that day. She spends a lot of time getting injured in this anime. I’m sensing a theme… Never mind that. Let’s actually get into this episode of Celestial Method.
This episode was definitely about exposing how conflicting and childish Yuzuki has been acting. After alienating Nonoka, she does the same to kind, sweet Koharu, who has always been by her side. It’s interesting to me the way she reacts to people who care about her. While she has no reason to trust Nonoka, for her to purposely push Koharu away, it’s clear that she’s purposely clinging to her hate of the saucer, but it’s not explained why.
The normally brazen but sweet Yuzuki is standoffish and rebellious here and it’s clear there’s something on her mind, but she refuses to share it. Her older brother Shouta has clearly spent seven years not knowing exactly what was going on with his sister and has pretty much given up trying to help. His reaction is always to apologize for his sister and write it off as her bad personality. While I do feel bad for Yuzuki, I feel worse for everyone that seems determined to be there for her, despite her bratty behavior.
We wrap this episode up with Koharu, upset that she had to give some tough love to her best friend and broken up about it. Nonoka decides to help and clearly has something in mind that might help uncover exactly what’s going on with Yuzuki.
Other than learning more about Yuzuki, we also learned quiet a bit about Koharu through flashbacks. While Koharu isn’t the best at speaking, it’s clear she’s always been trying to support her best friend Yuzuki, which makes their fight all the more upsetting. Clearly, both girls feel strongly, but with Yuzuki refusing to explain what’s on her mind, it looks like we won’t know exactly what is causing Yuzuki’s distress until she bothers to explain her feelings.
Since this episode left off on a cliffhanger, I hope we get a complete resolution in the next episode. There’s only so long you can care about someone who refuses to explain what’s going on in their head.
