Hardware Sales

3DS 41.045
PS Vita 18.428
Wii U 13.598
PS3 6.486
PS4 5.470
PSP 301
Xbox 360 151

A lot of new games to get to in this week’s Media Create charts, but let’s look at hardware first. Overall, numbers have been given a bump up. Most of that bump can be attributed to the 3DS and Wii U. The Wii U in particular made a near 4,000 unit jump from last week. In addition to the Wii U having a good week, Mario Kart 8 saw a 15% increase from last week. I don’t know for sure if this is in anticipation of a holiday or festival (I know there’s Buddhist thing called the Bon Festival coming this week), but as I’ve said in previous weeks…

Wii U: I Want to Believe - Media Create

Moving on to games, Yo-kai Watch 2 continues to rule the charts with an iron fist. The two SKUs combined for 120,000 units sold and was able to push past the 2 million mark, joining Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mario Kart 7, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Monster Hunter 4, and Pokemon X&Y as 2 million unit sellers on the 3DS in Japan. A few more weeks like this and Yo-kai Watch 2 could pass the first game’s overall sales on a per game basis.

As for the new games, we start with Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2. This is the sequel to the Ultimate Mission card video game that released on the 3DS last year. While the first game never saw a release in the west, I wouldn’t completely rule out either one coming here. Bandai Namco appears to be bringing over more anime related games, such as the One Piece games that released this year and the Sword Art Online games, which will release soon. With the completion of Dragon Ball Z Kai coming soon to the West, something like this could be an interesting tie-in for the series.

Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson - Media Create

Next is Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson. This is the latest game to release in the series. For its first week, it had the lowest sales in the series so far. However, it may have been lower because of the price. Compared to the first two games on 3DS, Deep Crimson actually comes in ¥500 higher for its initial price. As for localization, it’s still up in the air at the moment, but it could be swayed by good sales for Shinovi Versus and Bon Appétit!, both coming to the western Vitas soon.

Coming in fourth is Ultra Street Fighter IV. This is a standalone version of the latest update to Street Fighter IV. The game has already released in the West, both as an update and as a standalone game.

Moving farther down the list, we have Shin Hayarigami netting both its Vita and PS3 ports. This is a horror adventure game that has its protagonists search for the serial killer known as the “Blind Man”. This is the latest game in the Harayigami series and the first since Hayarigami 3 on the PS2.

Bravely Default: For the Sequel - Media Create

Farther down, we have the newest SKU for Bravely Default. This time, it’s an Ultimate Hits edition of the For the Sequel version of the game. This is now the fourth version of the game that Japanese gamers can play, including the recently announced free-to-play version that allows you to play the first four chapters before purchasing.

Also from Square Enix, we have the complete Dragon Quest X on Wii U. This did not sell well, probably because the gamers that were playing it already have the main game as well as the expansion. No word yet on if this will ever see the west. If anything, this would probably be the version that comes over, similar to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate coming West instead of Monster Hunter 4.

Finishing the new games, we have Lost Dimension from FuRyu, the company behind Unchained Blades. It is an RPG that has some visual novel elements in its gameplay. Given that Exstetra or any other FuRyu game hasn’t been announced for localization, the odds of this coming over are slim to nil.

Mario Kart 8 - Media Create

For returning games, we have Yoshi’s New Island surpassing 100,000 units sold, though still far behind its predecessor on the DS. Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 is less than 600 units away from hitting 600,000 units sold.
