August 24th of this year will mark the 20th anniversary of the amazing contemporary SNES RPG Mother 2. Released in North America one year later as Earthbound, the game has been a cult classic for decades and was only recently re-released for the Wii U Virtual Console last year.
To mark the anniversary, Takara Tomy will release a set of five figurines: Ness, Paula, Jeff, Poo and Mr. Saturn. The Takara Tomy company recently released the current Pokemon figures that were released worldwide simultaneously to commemorate the release of Pokemon X and Y games.
The Earthbound figurines are reported to stand 35 to 55 mm tall (roughly 1.4 and 2.1 inches) and cost 300 yen (about $3.00 USD) each. It is a safe bet that the 35 mm figure will be of the tiny Mr. Saturn. No pictures of the toys have been released at this time.
There is no word on a release outside of Japan. Considering how most Earthbound stuff goes, it won’t be. But there is always the chance of importing!
