Ladies and gentlemen, this week’s theme for the Media Create charts is “A Tale of Two Consoles.” On the one side, you have the PS Vita, which seems to be growing as a worthy competitor to the 3DS by the week, even with the out-of-place Vita TV. It did receive some help from new games Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z and Uta Kumi 575, but it didn’t have anything that made a huge impact. Hopefully, this will be the new baseline when things are going slow for the system.
On the other side, you have the Wii U which had another struggling week. And as for games that we know are coming, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze can’t come soon enough to help the system. The game releases a week after the Nintendo Investor’s Meeting, which will happen tomorrow in Japan (given the time differences, it will be late tonight here in North America). Hopefully, we’ll have a clearer idea of what Nintendo’s plans are for the home console market.
As for its other system, the 3DS is doing well. It’s still leading the way with 38,229 units sold. It’s down from last year by nearly 50%, but that was also during the Animal Crossing craze that went on for months. While they don’t have as killer of an app that Animal Crossing: New Leaf was this time around, it should be noted that Kirby Triple Deluxe is doing well at a respectable 58,015 units sold.
Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Mankind made the most improvement this past week, jumping up nearly 800% in units sold over the previous week. I don’t remember seeing any news about the series last week so there must have been some sort of sale to cause the games to sell.
Also of note, Yo-kai Watch continues to sell well for Level-5. Keep an eye on that spelling of the game because Level-5 has recently registered a trademark under that name in the U.S. We may very well be seeing that game release some time soon.
So Level-5… How about Fantasy Life as well?
