Video game publisher Atlus announced that Persona 4: Arena will be region locked on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Though this is normal for Xbox 360 games, this will be a unique situation on the PS3. Other than a statement to confirm this, Atlus has no statement on why they region locked the game for the PS3.
However, there is some good news to come out of this. According to Siliconera, the online servers for Persona 4: Arena will be global, allowing for international battles. So if you wish to take on a random person in Japan, those in the rest of the world will still be able to do so.
Persona 4: Arena is a fighting game based in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series, featuring characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4. It is rated T for Teen and is expected to release on August 7th in North America, as well as July 26th in Japan and August 31st in Europe.
