First announced back in May–and then subsequently dropping off the face of the Earth for a while–Square Enix has released a digital version of Final Fantasy VIII on Steam. This was the second Final Fantasy game to come to the PC back in the day, and the biggest problem with it then was that people who wanted to play Final Fantasy VIII probably already bought a PlayStation to play the game.
Well, now the PC version has some new features to beat out its now fourteen year old PlayStation edition. The Steam version adds Cloud Saves, a Magic Booster (making your spells more powerful), 45 achievements, modern monitor support, and the Chocobo World mini-game is now playable without the Japan-only PocketStation (though, admittedly, this was in the original PC release as well).
The game is $11.99 on Steam, Check it out by clicking here. If that’s too rich for your blood, you could always wait for a sale.
