Crowdfunding website Kickstarter, whose gaming-related projects are often covered here on oprainfall, has officially opened its doors to projects based in Australia and New Zealand. These projects will be able to start getting funding as of November 13th.
In the lead up to this date, a number of “Kickstarter School” events will be held in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane at the end of October and the beginning of November. This will give any Australian with a fresh idea the chance to talk to Kickstarter staff about the process, as well as an opportunity pitch their new potential product. The indie gaming scene is quite strong here in Australia; Halfbrick Studios, the creators of Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, are just one of the many companies based here. I had the pleasure of meeting just a few of these developers at PAX this year. Hopefully, Kickstarter’s new headquarters will assist more Australian developers in getting the funding they need to get their studios off the ground.
