Square Enix continues to reveal more about their new title, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, as a new video shows more of the title’s gameplay mechanics.
Narrated by game design director Yuji Abe, the gameplay video takes place in the open world environment of the Wildlands, where we find Lightning battling monsters and a giant boss to rescue an endangered white Chocobo.
The monsters Lightning fights are hallmarks of the series and RPGs in general, such as the Slimes. The boss is called the Chocobo Eater, an enemy that fans of Final Fantasy X will recognize as the dangerous predator that hunts the ostrich-like birds. The gameplay video also shows us more of Lightning’s costumes and their attributes, as well as the player’s ability to customize them. In the battle with the Chocobo Eater, Lightning dons a suit of heavy armor that increases her attack power, as well a red military uniform that increases her magic abilities. These costumes can be swapped in battle.
