At Tokyo Game Show 2026, a media session was held for upcoming fighting game, Melty Blood: Twi-Lumina. During the session, more information was revealed for the newly added mode called Grand Scenario Mode which features a story written by Kinoko Nasu. According to Kamone Serizawa, the development director of Melty Blood: Twi-Lumina, the new mode will have approximately 20 hours of content.
The story unfolds in two formats. One is a visual novel mode with an appearance similar to Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- with text covering the screen. The other is an adventure mode which is presented differently visually showing the character’s portraits, the character’s sprites, and a dialog window at the bottom. Dialog choices made in this mode can affect the way the story unfolds. Some of these choices can lead to bad ends, some can lead to battles with characters with different abilities than usual. Grand Scenario Mode progresses while alternating between these two parts.
During a Q&A session, Serizawa was asked about Grand Scenario Mode’s implementation, why it had such a major change in direction and daring approach to storytelling compared to previous entries. According to Serizawa, just being a fighting game isn’t enough to attract players. They know there are many TYPE-MOON fans that want to read Kinoko Nasu’s stories, so they hope to draw those fans in with this scenario and have them experience fighting games for the first time. If they end up finding fighting games fun, that would make the team happy.
Serizawa was also asked about other topics such as if collaboration characters (such as Mash Kyrielight) would appear in Grand Scenario Mode and if there will a PC port of Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-. In regards to the collaboration characters, he said there are currently no plans for them to be involveds since the story is based on Tsukihime and Melty Blood. As for a PC port of Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-, he said he’s not in a position to answer that question. However, he did mention that Grand Scenario Mode would be enjoyable to those who have not read Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-.
Melty Blood: Twi-Lumina is a 2D fighting game developed by French-Bread and published by Aniplex. It is scheduled to launch on April 22nd, 2027 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
