On April 29, 2026 the Aniplex YouTube channel streamed a concert titled “Yuna First Live” featuring the character Yuna from Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale. The real life date of the stream is the same date Yuna had a live performance in Ordinal Scale. Shortly after the conclusion of the concert, a teaser for a brand new original Sword Art Online movie was shown, announcing that the movie was in production. More information on the newly announced movie will be revealed in July 2026. This new movie will be the first original movie in the Sword Art Online universe since Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale. The two movies released after Ordinal Scale (Aria of a Starless Night and Scherzo of Deep Night) were adaptations of the SAO Progressive light novels.

Sword Art Online is a light novel series written by Reki Kawahara with illustrations by abec. The light novel first began publishing in April 2009 under the Dengeki Bunko imprint. It has spawned numerous adaptations including three anime seasons and three anime films, all produced by A-1 Pictures.
