As I am writing this, it is Jan 8, and I am thinking about about how this is the last week before the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 update drops. It is crazy to think this game is about to have some serious quality of life (hopefully), new islanders (yay!), and new content to explore for my island. I have definitely gone through all the seasons and the holidays once already, and I think this update will breathe some life into the game and make it so that year two of Tom Nook’s Snapshots can have even more variety than before!
I just really, really hope we also get more clothing items…I want more outfits!

Leif came to visit today, and he still will not get rid of the weeds that have slowly taken over my island. I do not mean the flowers, I mean the actual weeds. I cannot keep up with them, and I am surprised he won’t take care of them for me. It is very frustrating. I ended up not buying anything else from him today.
Camofrog also came by after I finished picking my outfit for the week! It was nice to see him, and he gave me an apple. I am guessing he must have picked it from one of the trees on my island, and that was nice of him! He complimented me on my academic painting (I have one already donated to the museum, but for some reason I got a second authentic one from Redd, which brings up serious art questions…), and Camofrog apparently doesn’t know his art at all.
There was also a visitor to the island today, Merry! She is a cat who called my island “the bomb” and said she is “jelly of everyone who lives here.” I didn’t invite her to come stay, but I am glad that others love my island still even in 2026.
Finally, I found a lost item! It made me think instantly of Hugh when I checked it, and he gave me a…bear costume…as a reward? What am I going to do with a bear costume…

My mail was getting dangerously full again, and so I spent some time today clearing it out. I really hope that the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 update increase the maximum amount of mail past 300 letters, just so I could have more breathing space with it.
I actually spent so much time going through all my mail, that the only other thing I did today was go to Nook’s Cranny and see what was for sale. I ended up buying a die for 312 Bells. I don’t know what I would use it for, but I have it in my inventory!
January 10

I was so utterly busy in real life that I did not get to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons until incredibly late at night. It was so late, in fact, that I missed the Fishing Tourney. AGAIN.
This was not how I wanted to start 2026. I missed so many of them in 2025, and I hate that I already missed the first one of 2026. Absolutely maddening for me, to be honest. (And a little saddening. I wanted to catch fish…)
January 11

Because the Fishing Tourney was yesterday, that meant K.K. Slider came by today to visit Renassia even though the island was covered in snow.
He played K.K. Samba for me, Gonzo, and Tybalt. I really think he has certain tunes he prefers to play over others, like any artist does – for example, I don’t think you’ll ever hear Bob Dylan playing his biggest hits on his endless tour. I really need to (and I’ve said this before, I know!) sit down and figure out exactly what tracks I am missing from my music player and start requesting those each week.
January 12

Today, I bought a garden faucet from Nook’s Cranny. I want to set it up somewhere outside, but I don’t know quite where I would yet. An outdoor hedge maze would be a cool idea, wouldn’t it? I also dug up a golden spot and then planted 10,000 Bells there. I’ve definitely shifted my main source of income away from the money rock to the money trees and a bit of crop harvesting, mostly due to practicality and timing. I am so tired of digging up flowers constantly.
When I visited the plaza, I saw a bunch of my islanders there and I talked with them to see what was happening. Kicks was also there today! I unfortunately didn’t see anything he had for sale that I did not already have or that I actually wanted. I’ve bought very little from him in his last few visits, and I am wondering if I’ve finally just picked through all of his catalog that he sells in Animal Crossing: New Horizons…
January 13

Redd came today, for the first time in the new year!
As always, he had a lot of art for sale…And I think the only real one was the Famous Painting, also known as Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. The eyebrows look right on this one, for once. He has sold this painting multiple times before, but the eyebrows have always been super weird and made her look ‘angry,’ for lack of a better word. I also bought a sample case of black tea from him. It was 5,400 Bells and I am sure I’ll find a place for it somewhere in my home.
Afterwards, I went fishing and I caught exclusively carp. I am tired of catching carp. I have so many they can carpool in a stretch limo.
January 14

Tutu is just silly, sometimes. You can tell it by the photograph I took today. I ran into her randomly today, and I couldn’t help but talk to her.
I know the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 update came out a day early, but I just won’t have the time to play it until the weekend due to everything I have going on for the remainder of the week. It was nearly midnight my time by the time I played today, and so I didn’t update the game either. I will definitely do that tomorrow.
I hunted down a floating balloon, and there was Yucca inside! I do not know why there are plants floating around (isn’t that how invasive species start?), but there we go. I also found a bottle that washed up on shore, and there was a DIY for bamboo floor lamp in it. Sydney, who threw the bottle into the water, did so because the weather was nice out and they made up the recipe while on said walk.
It was a quick end to the week, but still fun!
What do you do when you only have a short time to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
How long did it take for you to get a real Famous Painting?
