NIS America has released two demos for their upcoming release of The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon. The first demo is a Story Demo which lets you play through the game’s prologue. Save data from the Story Demo can be transferred to the full game once it releases. A Day One patch is required for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions to transfer save data.

The second demo is a Battle Demo. In this demo, you can play through three levels of the Grim Garten with three different teams led by Van, Rean or Kevin. The Battle Demo takes place further in the game, so players can really get a good taste of what the battle system has to offer. As this is more of a trial of the game’s battle system, there is no save data transfer for this demo.

The Story Demo is currently available for most platforms (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Steam) where the game will release. While NIS America did say the Story Demo would also be available on Nintendo Switch 2, the demo is not available to download for that platform at the time of this writing. The Battle Demo is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is scheduled to launch on January 15, 2026 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store). It is developed by Nihon Falcom and published in North America by NIS America.
