While we here at Operation Rainfall love covering the latest in gaming news and sharing our reviews of titles new and classic, we also just enjoy playing games in our downtime. So with that, sit back, relax, and check out what the oprainfall gaming crew have been up to this week!
As you all may already know, have you read our previous Week in Gaming article, I recently was jumping into my first new game plus run of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. This past week however, maybe it was the colder weather, but every time I would try to make progress and work on some sidequests, I kept zoning out, kinda falling asleep but not quite. I couldn’t seem to focus on Xenoblade at all. And, since it was the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series’ 20th anniversary this past week, I ultimately decided to take a break from XC3 and instead hop back into the end of Infinite Wealth.
I’ve been trying to finish up Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth for a while now. I played the majority of the main game, along with various side stuff, in those first few months after it came out almost two years ago now. But being how I am now days, I obviously got burnt out and took a break after putting in a significant time investment. Though for my birthday back in March of this year, I received a copy of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and since it takes place right after Infinite Wealth, I knew I needed to know what happens with Kiryu before I jumped into that. Where I picked Infinite Wealth back up this time, I was near the very end of the game. I had already finished Ichiban’s side in Hawaii and fought that final boss. All that was left, was to grind with Kiryu’s party a bit in the Yokohama underground and once again head back to the Millennium Tower in Kamurocho. I really enjoyed the end of the game. It kinda feels like it left off a bit open-ended, much like the end of Yakuza 5 did. Nonetheless, the end of the game was quite enjoyable. Honestly, I was hesitant to move it off the PS4 to my external hard drive just yet. I had to make room for Pirate Yakuza however, so I moved a couple of other games I wasn’t planning to play anytime soon. Although, I don’t yet have Infinite Wealth‘s DLC with the additional post-game content.
I’m not super far into Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii yet, but I have already put in just under 10 hours. I was a bit worried this game would be unsatisfyingly short because I heard back when it was still new, that other fans found the story to be pretty short even for Yakuza. But so far the game has a good amount of side stuff to do and I imagine I’ll put in as much time into it at least, as I did with Like a Dragon Gaiden. Thus far I’ve gotten through Rich Island where Majima wakes up, went and figured out what was up at Nele Island, made a short visit to Madlantis and now I’m back in Honolulu. Majima and his new friends are there to get his newly acquired ship fixed up and now we’ve gotta make some money for it. I’m only at the beginning of checking out all the Hawaii side stuff since things opened up. I went and played a little bit of mahjong, did a smidgen of karaoke, got Crazy Delivery unlocked and now I’m getting ready to go collect some bounties for cash. – Jenae
