Since I had a great time with the previous release, I decided to take a look at Disgaea 7 Complete on Nintendo Switch 2. I was curious to see how it would run on the new console and it came with all the previous DLC, so I thought I would check out some of the new characters while I was into it. This review is going to focus on the performance of the port and the DLC included. If you want a more in-depth review, check out my PC review for the base game. Now, let’s see how this port holds up compared to the previous release.

Disgaea 7 | Map

The story here follows a young rich otaku girl named Pirilika. She is obsessed with the Bushido life style, so she travels to a group of Netherworlds called Hinomoto in order to experience this culture first hand. To her dismay when she arrives, the Bushido culture has been long suppressed due to the rise of the evil shogun, Demmodore Opener, and his magistrates. She soon encounters a young samurai named Fuji who agrees to help her, if she pays him a large sum of cash. His daughter, Ao, has caused much destruction in this Netherworld, and he has to foot the bill. He agrees to help her recover the legendary Seven Founding Weapons and overthrow Opener in order to restore Bushido to these lands.

Disgaea 7 Complete | Beryl

Graphically, Disgaea 7 Complete looks great on Nintendo Switch 2. I ran the game using the graphics option and everything looked crisp and clear even on my 4K TV. The game ran well and there were no slowdowns during actual gameplay. The game would freeze for a second sometimes upon returning to base while it auto saved, but this had no effect on gameplay. If you want the game to run a bit faster you can always turn on performance mode, but I guess this would mostly be good for high refresh rate displays.

Disgaea 7 Complete | Jumbo

Since all of the DLC is included from the previous release, you can start with all sorts of goodies. You can play the additional stories to unlock a ton of characters from previous Disgaea titles. These include folks like Etna, Flonne, Adell, Desco, Raspberyl and many others. These stories are not exactly easy to complete in the beginning since the equipment the characters start off with is a lot better than your starting gear, but with some proper planning, you can unlock whoever you want in no time. They will always be on the same level as your highest leveled character, so you won’t have to grind ’em up right off the bat. There is also an all new story section in the post game called the Nethertime Support Force. I found this to be pretty interesting and it got some of the DLC characters involved in the story.

Disgaea 7 | Flonne

This DLC also included some new looks for your characters, the ability to start with Pleinair in your party without completing the game, some special weapons, some HL + Mana and much more. While I whizzed through the main game in 20 hours since I grinded smarter not harder, the additional stories and doing all the other side adventures will keep me busy for a quite a while.

Disgaea 7 Complete | Post Game Story

Disgaea 7 Complete is a pretty good package for the $69.99 price tag. The base game is great and like I said in my previous review, this was a return to form for this franchise. The DLC adds quite a bit to the game if you’re a fan of the Disgaea franchise, or if you just want a bunch of special characters to fill out your party with. I think this is a must for Nintendo Switch 2 owners that haven’t already invested in the previous release. You’ll find a great strategy game here that runs very well on your hardware.

Steve started with oprainfall not long after the campaign moved from the IGN forums to Facebook. Ever since, he has been fighting to give all non-mainstream RPGs a fair voice. As the site admin, he will continue to do this and even show there is value in what some would deem "pure ecchi." He loves niche games and anime more than anything... well, except maybe Neptune.
