I had a chance to take a look at the latest release from our friends at JAST. This one comes to us from one of my personal favorite makers, Alcot, and is titled Yomegami: My Sweet Goddess. Like other titles from this maker, this is a light-hearted comedy, so I was expecting a fun ride with this one. I’ve spent about 20 hours and completed all the routes, so it’s time to see if it stacks up to their previous works or just falls flat.

Yomegami | Mikoto

Our story follows a young man named Narukawa Hayato. He is not your ordinary guy; he was once a powerful devil named Angolmois, but he has been reincarnated. This is because his mother, Iris the Goddess of Rebirth, gave birth to his soul here on Earth as a virgin. He must now to do good deeds to make up for his past life in order to get them both back into Heaven. Though as with most things, nothings goes as planned when he moves to a new town called New Masado, but he is going to meet some new friends and have some interesting adventures here.

Yomegami | Mari

Yomegami: My Sweet Goddess is divided up into four major routes, one for each of our fine heroines. First off is his mother Iris, a very caring soul who looks out for everyone else before herself. She is a bit too attached to Hayato, and her love goes beyond motherly for reasons you will discover as her story unfolds. Next up we have Ichijiku Mikoto, who is very taken with Hayato when they first meet. She seems to be drawn to him for some reason, but she has no memory of her past. She is the adopted daughter of the local Yakuza leader, so you can imagine people are sorta afraid of her, but Hayato decides to be her friend and their story begins. Next up we have Rico, a Goddess candidate who loves the smell of Hayato’s magical bits. Her fetish is sniffing them. She is very cute and always saying lewd and suggestive things out of nowhere. One day she attacks Hayato for reasons that become very clear as her story unfolds. Lastly we have Hakari Mari, the class president who loves cute things. She begins to hang out with Hayato when he starts school and the two become close friends. Soon after she is able to see auras and the weight of sins above people’s heads with her glasses. Hayato and Iris are not sure how this happened, but Mari is determined to use this new power to protect the town she loves.

While there are four different routes in the game, there aren’t very many choices to get you on these routes, which makes it seem like it would be easy to get the one you want every time, but not really. There is a skip feature like in most visual novels for read text but you have to skip through the entire common route to see if you made the right choices to get the girl you wanted, making it feel like a bit of a task when you finished a couple of routes and are looking for the others.

Yomegami | Protect

Graphically Yomegami: My Sweet Goddess is outstanding. I loved all the character designs and the backgrounds really helped create a great atmosphere for the story as well. All of the CG work is top tier, especially the fully uncensored H-Scenes, and you can tell the artist was proud of their work and went above and beyond with their quality. I also like the little chibi cut-ins during the story; those were very cute and really express what was going on in the scenes they were used.

Yomegami | Riko

In the sound department, Yomegami is great as well. The OST has plenty of range to fit all the emotions of what is going on in the story. There is some hard rocking tunes for action-filled moments and softer songs for more tender ones. The opening and ending themes are fantastic as well. The game is fully voiced in Japanese, aside from the protagonist of course. The voice actors do a fantastic job bringing these characters to life. Each one is very distinct and fits the character they are portraying to a tee. However, I would suggest some headphones for the H-Scenes unless you want to share their glory with the world.

Yomegami | Facts

Overall I had a good time with Yomegami: My Sweet Goddess. I found all four heroines’ routes to be interesting and nothing ever got too serious, which was a big plus for me personally. I love light-hearted comedies like this and I hope JAST picks up more of these in the future. The one thing I will say is the Gods and Goddesses like to keep it in the family so if this is something you can’t get past, maybe this one isn’t for you. Otherwise you will find another grand adventure from Alcot that has been given a great localization from JAST.
