I am feeling much better, honestly, by the time the end of this week rolled around.
I just find that my time is, as ever, at a premium, and I am increasingly finding that my free time is more or less limited to when I’m on public transit or in the late evening hours before bed.
It was a lot easier to stay up all night when I was in my early twenties, but it is a lot harder to do when I’m- at minimum- a decade past that point.
As always, this Animal Crossing: New Horizons column will continue chugging along for as long as possible throughout 2025. After all: I am far too deep into this New Year’s Resolution at this point to back out now.

I am feeling a lot better today, but I spent the majority of my playing time going through my house inventory, pulling a bunch of items out, and then selling it to Nook’s Cranny. I need to free up space badly so I can store more clothing and other items. Ideally, I would pay off my loans first and expand my house to get more space, but I keep paying for bridges and inclines to get around my island first.
Speaking of inclines, I also attended the dedication ceremony for my island’s new incline! It’s honestly a miracle that everyone was able to fit onto it. Finally, Hugo taught me the Mistaken Reaction. It has a literal star fall down on my head, which is definitely not what I was expecting for a Reaction!

My plans today in Animal Crossing: New Horizons got sabotaged when Hazel asked me to catch her a squid. I spent quite a bit of time running around and catching a clown fish, an oarfish, a horse mackerel, and more than a few bass before I finally landed a squid.
It was a lot of fun running around the island and catching a bunch of sea fish. I also ended up donating the clown fish and oarfish to my Museum, as I didn’t have those already!
Hazel thanked me for catching a squid for her and she gave me a thief’s costume as the “perfect reward”. I am not quite sure what that says about me and my adventures in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Thief’s costume is perfect for me? REALLY?

By the time I could play today, I was just exhausted and going on autopilot.
I ended up pushing Beck around while she was fishing to the point that she yelled at me for it. I felt bad afterwards!
I also got coffee at Brewster’s Cafe with Goose. Brewster is definitely a character…he said that the coffee flavor is at its peak when it is served at 176.54 degrees and that I should drink it when it is fresh. That’s incredibly, scoldingly, hot- and more than a little concerning. Somehow, adding in the pigeon milk also made it sweet and mild and “so dreamy”.
I also chatted up Goose while he was drinking his coffee, and he started talking about his core sloshing around inside him. Which is mildly a gross mental image to have. Sometimes we all have ‘inside thoughts’ that we shouldn’t say, and Goose definitely lets them all out.

It is Saturday, and that means K.K. Slider is visiting again! This week, he played Two Days Ago when I ashared how I was feeling a little blue with him.
I also got a DIY for bamboo basket- though I am not exactly sure what I am going to do with it.
It was a fairly uneventful Saturday, but I ended up popping Two Days Ago into my record player in my home, and I chilled out in real life while listening to it. It definitely feels like something inspired by The Beatles…

The flower menace is still a very real problem on my island.
Today, I tackled the issue on the north-eastern side of Renassia. I dug up a bunch of flowers and laid pathways all around my statute park that I am slowly building whenever I get a new piece from Gulliver washing up on my shores.
I keep having to dig up the flowers, sell them, and then lay pathway down to block them from overgrowing the areas again. It’s a lot more work than I would expect, and I might end up ripping up that part of the pathway tiles that I’m putting down anyway for something else.
But it definitely looks nicer than the overgrown mess it was beforehand.

Today, Nook’s Cranny finally sold something that I could utilize: a clay furnace. I ended up eating an orange and digging up an orange tree that I relocated a few feet further back (it is the tree in the middle of the screenshot, actually). I then put down a type of tile, curved the edges of it all, and relocated the outdoor kitchen area onto it. I also had to (naturally) dig up some flowers to make this all happen. It is just a bit south of my town hall, and I love it.
This is my first fully done area outside, and my mind is already buzzing on what additional add-ons I can make to it. I want to design other parts of my island in the same way…If Nook’s Cranny would cooperate and give me cool things to use.

I feel for Cephalobot here, I really do.
There is no worse feeling than being wrist-deep in a great novel like The Count of Monte Cristo, and realizing that you lost your copy somewhere. And what’s worse is if you can’t remember what version and translation of the book you had, and you don’t want to get used to someone else’s ‘writing voice’.
Other than that, I set up a new incline spot in the northern part of the island to make donations too. Once that is complete the entire western side of the island should all be linked together!
And that wraps up another week of this Animal Crossing: New Horizons-themed column.
What kind of outdoor areas do you have set up? Are you reading any cool books?
