Gonzo says that I win at High-Low.

It’s hard wanting to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons and write this column when I’m traveling and subsequently sick from a cold.

As you read this week’s column, you’ll see that I’ve been playing at times ranging from early in the morning until the very last few minutes before midnight. It’s been pretty much whenever I have had free time and I’ve been feeling up to playing.

Trying to explain to people that my Nintendo Switch has to come with me whenever I am not going to be home is an interesting challenge, but it is still a fun one.

Next week, I plan on wearing a wet suit and seeing what I can find out in the ocean…

If you missed last week’s entry, you can find it here.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons | Saharah visits.

I have yet to get a rug, carpet, or wallpaper from Saharah that I’ve genuinely liked. It’s a bit frustrating, since I know they are all exclusive to her shop whenever she decides to come visit my little island.

So, I buy things from her each time, and I always forget to redeem my reward tickets she gives me. I am a sucker for these gacha-esque Animal Crossing: New Horizons items though, and I know that I’m going to keep buying from her. Eventually, she HAS to have something I like, right?

Right?…

Animal Crossing: New Horizons | Paid off bridge.

Today, I paid off my new bridge!

I had accumulated the 136,097 Bells needed to pay it off over the past couple of weeks, and I decided to go ahead and pay it all off at once. This is really nice, since I want to start making time in the northern half of my island and make it into something other than the untamed wilderness it currently is.

I also dug up and sold more fossils, shopped at Nook’s Cranny without buying anything, and returned a lost item to Gonzo. He seemed pretty appreciative that I did so, honestly. Finally, Label of the Able Sisters came to visit. She wanted to check out some fashion, but I didn’t have the appropriate outfit gear. I have not been able to give her whatever outfit she has wanted since the first time she’s visited my island, unfortunately.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons | Blathers confirms the Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil is finished!

It is another rainy day on Renassia in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. First, I pulled out my trusty blue polka-dot umbrella as I sorted through some of my (still) piling up mail. I ended up registering several new songs to my record player that I’ve ordered through Nook Shopping, stored some items, and Gonzo came to visit! He played High-Low Card with me, and I won a glengarry off of him.

I dug up some fossils, got them evaluated, and completed my Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil by finally finding the skull! Blathers told me some cool facts about that dinosaur, as well. After leaving, I ran into Becky in the plaza, and I handed over an alto saxophone. I still feel a little sad about her wanting to leave my island, admittedly.

I attended a ceremony (still in the rain…) for my new bridge, and I was a little surprised that only Tom Nook and Isabelle had umbrellas out. Finally, I wrapped up my day by stopping by Redd’s and buying a Flowery Painting (aka Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh).  It’s funny: I saw the third one in that series at the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, Germany, last year when I covered a concert there.

While there was so much that happened today on my island, it feels like there is always more to explore.

K.K. Slider is waiting to play his show in the plaza.

It turns out there is still a lot to do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, even in the early, EARLY morning hours.

Today, I caught a peacock butterfly and turned it into Blathers. He was…less than thrilled to see it, as always, but he took it into my museum for safe keeping. I also picked some weeds, ordered a new song…and I picked a new spot for an incline.  My project to link my island’s untamed northern half with its more developed southern half is still proceeding apace! I picked a colorful blue one this time, instead of more natural stones and grass and such.

The biggest surprise for me today, though?

K.K. Slider shows up REALLY early to tune his guitar and get things set up for a performance. I was honestly surprised at how early he shows up, and I wonder if he doesn’t come at 12:01 AM or something for his weekly concert.

I unfortunately missed this week’s performance due to being at Walt Disney’s Disneyland, but I will definitely attend next week!

Isabelle talking about her love for movies.

I never pictured Isabelle as a movie connoisseur.

It’s interesting finding out small bits about her life when she gives the daily announcements as I pop onto my island. My mind immediately went to 1994’s The Shawshank Redemption, since that movie played on TV all the time and helped to develop that film’s cult following, that blossomed into a modern-day classic that earned its spot in the National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant“.

I also had the left wing identified by Blathers to finish off my Pteranodon! I did a bit of shopping for clothing at the Able Sisters, and I cleared out some more mail before giving a decorative column to Gayle. I also sold off a LOT more duplicate K.K. Slider songs. I keep ordering them every day in the hopes I’ll find one I don’t have somewhere.

Getting Nook Miles.

I have really been ignoring my NookPhone. It turns out that there are a LOT of Nook Miles that I’ve been neglecting to get, along with title keywords, because I just ignore the milestone achievements that I make in the game.

I spent more time than I like to admit last night clearing a bunch of those notifications off my NookPhone. I also ordered another K.K. Slider tune to be delivered to my door, and added a bunch of previously purchased songs to my current music list!

Today’s play occurred within the last few minutes before midnight, and I was frantically running around trying to get everything in game started and done before the day ended.

Store is closing.

When I fired up Animal Crossing: New Horizons tonight, I immediately went into Nook’s Cranny, as usual. However, the music was different. I was trying to figure out what was going on (was it a special event?!) when I was informed by Timmy that the store was shutting down for the night. He essentially told me that while I don’t have to go home, I can’t stay there.

I didn’t even know you COULD be kicked out of a place! But I definitely was.

I also gave 50,000 Bells to the Gyroid taking donations for the new ramp I have being built, dug up a new fossil that Blathers didn’t need, and knocked around rocks until one shot out a bunch of money!

Overall, a fairly fun day and a decent way to end this week in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How has your week been?

Have you gotten Blathers to accept any new fossils from you?
