Girls und Panzer

We here at oprainfall don’t just love video games: we’re big fans of anime, too. So in celebration of the medium, we’re here to give you our thoughts on what we’ve been watching each week as we watch it. Old, new – anything goes.

Currently Airing:

Dark Gathering

Dark Gathering

Picking up from the last week, things are mostly back to normal with the hunt of spirits continuing. Although he made his promise to Eiko and telling Yayoi he will help, it’s still nice to see Keitaro hasn’t completely changed character out of nowhere. Keitaro is still the easily frightened guy as before. The talk he had his Eiko doesn’t go unaddressed, the bit with her teasing him was pretty funny. The spirit this time went into a type of urban legend realm and has done some some unexpected things. The tease at the end of the episode was interesting since I’m sure it will change somethings up. – Walter

Anime of the Past:

Girls und Panzer

Girls und Panzer

I’ve always heard of the series and knew something about it, but I never actually watched it before this. I’ve seen clips and had friends watch it so even I was kind of surprised that I never really got into it before. The plot of it and a lot of what has to do with the sport honestly to me is kind of dumb, but that being said I definitely am enjoying it. As a history nerd, it’s nice too see the different tanks and the themes of the different schools. I can see why so many people like the series. I think even with what happens in the matches, the show is kind of relaxing. After finishing the series, I’m looking to go into the OVAs and movies later on. – Walter

Manga:

Ume and Momo’s Ordinary Life

Ume and Momo's Everyday Life | Week in Anime Aug 27 - 1

Since last week, two more chapters of Ume and Momo’s Ordinary Life have become available, which brings us into Volume 2, thanks to the efforts of fan-translation. If you missed my blurb about this manga last week, this is a cute, lighthearted manga that follows cat sisters Ume and Momo through the adorable adventures they have in their everyday lives. The two newly translated chapters follow Ume and Momo on a trip to the local convenience store, and sees them at home doing a crossword puzzle. Momo’s childlike awe is always a pleasure to see, making the outing fun and getting a laugh or two out of Ume during the puzzle solving.

Ume and Momo's Everyday Life | Week in Anime Aug 27 - 2

Jovial and carefree, this series is quickly becoming a favorite of mine with its ease of reading and its ability to relieve my stress. – Drew D.

Mairimashita! Iruma-kun

Iruma-kun | Week in Anime Aug 27 - 1

I also had the chance to catch up with Mairimashita! Iruma-kun, as I managed to fall behind several chapters. Several weeks ago I had talked about my viewing and reviewing of the anime’s Season 3, so that led to my taking a break from the manga. It seems like a lot has happened, as Iruma found himself at a fancy ball called a Deviculum, and if I were to summarize, situational manipulation, political deception, and a play for political power were had. After typing that, I realize that could mean anything without spoilers. Anyway, though more tense and less humor than the norm for Iruma-kun, a perfectly timed phone call does help ease the stress and remind us that this manga is more so on the lighthearted side. After this story arc, it looks like we have a few in-between chapters featuring Iruma’s tutor, Bachiko, and then I guess we’ll see the start of the next main story arc soon.

The fan translation of Ume and Momo can be read on Mangadex, as there are no current plans for an official release. The official English translation of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun is provided by Kodansha US.Drew D
