While we here at Operation Rainfall love covering the latest in gaming news and sharing our reviews of titles new and classic, we also just enjoy playing games in our downtime. So with that, sit back, relax, and check out what the oprainfall gaming crew have been up to this week!
Last week when I discussed Tales of Arise, I was just about to fight the main bad guy in Cyslodia. Since then, I’ve finished that and completed the area after it. The boss in Cyslodia was actually pretty tough, I feel like I was really close to failing and having to redo that fight. The area afterwards, Elde Menancia, was a wonderful change of pace. No more extreme weather or other noticeable poor living conditions. It was a lot of green pastures and a beautiful city. I’ve only just last night finished the main story stuff in Elde Menancia and I unlocked fishing. I had a weird occurrence with a boss however. I’m honestly still not sure if it’s just a unique Tales of Arise thing, some kind of hidden status effect, or if it was a serious glitch. Near the end of the fight, as I was controlling Rinwell as usual and went into over limit, I lost the ability to run and spells would seemingly cast endlessly and never actually activate. I managed to defeat the boss regardless because I could still dodge, use instant attacks and the AI was controlling my other party members just fine, but it was weird. Everything was normal in the regular enemy battles afterwards.
I didn’t do much else gaming wise this past week outside of Tales of Arise. I did participate a little bit in the latest splatfest. I once again have picked the winning team, Team Treat, and purely because it was my favorite choice. I have yet to lose a Splatoon 3 splatfest yet. I still have to get on and grab my reward. I didn’t get to play as much as I wanted to but I am glad I got to enjoy it for a little bit. It was nice finally actually getting into tricolor matches and it wasn’t a bad stage this time for being the defending team, I managed to survive alright. Also, before the splatfest, I finally upgraded my Switch memory card. My 128gb was beyond full, I had archived a lot of past review titles and a few other games. I ended up upgrading to a 512gb card and after transferring and reinstalling everything I have just a bit under 300gb of space still free. Now I don’t have to archive anything when Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden come out. I’ve been planning to spend some eShop cash I’ve been sitting on, on buying both of those for the millionth time. They’re just such quality games, I can’t seem to stop buying new copies. – Jenae
I haven’t gotten much gaming done in the past couple weeks due to a bad sinus infection, but I messed around with some arcade classics on my Switch. I forgot how jank OG Double Dragon really was, but I still love it. Outside of that, I played a bit of a free-to-play game on Steam called King of Crabs. I most likely would’ve never tried this on my own, but a Phase-Connect VTuber named Amanogawa Shiina, I started watching recently, was playing this with her members, and it looked like a lot of fun. It’s a pretty simple Battle Royal style game where you eat everything in sight to become a bigger crab and do battle with up to 100 other players. Each crab had their own special abilities and there are plenty of weapons lying around to dispatch your foes with as well. There are some pay to win and gacha elements in this game, but I don’t think the grind for anything you really wanted would be too bad since I didn’t feel super underpowered, even though this was my first time playing and I spent $0 on the game.
You can check out King of Crabs on Steam or mobile, and Amanogawa Shiina is a very entertaining VTuber that I have a lot of fun watching, so you should check her out as well.
Next week I should be back to playing things more in my usual wheelhouse, since I’m finally starting to feel better. -Steve
