The Quintessential Quintuplets | Season 2 Visual

The production committee for The Quintessential Quintuplets Season 2 have announced that the TV anime’s broadcast would be postponed from October 2020 to January 2021. The broadcast was postponed due to the spread of COVID-19.

The anime was originally announced in February to air in October 2020. You can check out the original broadcast announcement trailer below.

The second season is titled The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬  and is produced by Bibury Animation Studios and directed by Kaori. Keiichiro Ochi returns to work on the series composition.

The main cast from the first season returns and is as follows:

  • Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Futaro Uesugi
  • Kana Hanazawa as Ichika Nakano
  • Ayana Taketatsu as Nino Nakano
  • Miku Itou as Miku Nakano
  • Ayane Sakura as Yotsuba Nakano
  • Inori Minase as Itsuki Nakano

The first season was produced by Tezuka Productions and directed by Satoshi Kuwabara. It ran for 12 episodes from January 2019 to March 2019 and Crunchyroll streamed the series in North America.

The Quintessential Quintuplets is adapted from Negi Haruba’s manga of the same name. The manga ran for 14 volumes with the last volume releasing in April 2020. It was published by Kodansha in its Weekly Shonen Magazine from August 2017 to February 2020. Kodansha USA has licensed the manga for release in North America.

Kodansha USA describes the series as follows:

A high school romantic comedy with five times the cute girls! A high school boy must work part-time to help five sisters study so they can graduate, but the only thing these quintuplets have in common is that they all hate studying!

Five girls who want to do anything but study, and their tutor: a high school boy who’s got book smarts and not much else. Futaro Uesugi took the tutoring gig because he was desperate for cash, but when his students—the five beautiful daughters of a wealthy businessman—find five times the excuses to slack off, what can he do?! At this rate, the sisters won’t graduate, so if he wants to get paid, Futaro must think of a plan to suit each of them … Which feels hopeless when five out of five of them think he’s a loser!

The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬  is scheduled to broadcast in Japan starting January 2021.
