Anime Boston | 2020 Event

m-flo

m-flo, one of Japan’s most eclectic music groups, will take the stage at Anime Boston 2020.

Formed in 1998 by classmates VERBAL and ☆Taku Takahashi, the band eventually added LISA as a vocalist, debuting at the group m-flo. Their first maxi-single “the tripod e.p.” marked their major debut in July of 1999, which charted ninth on the Oricon charts. They went on to release 12 singles and two original albums, and their second album EXPO EXPO sold more than 800,000 units. LISA departed from the group in 2002 to pursue her solo career, but VERBAL and ☆Taku continued as m-flo.

In 2003, the duo released the Love series, an unprecedented collection of collaborations with different artists. They performed at Nippon Budokan, the Yokohama Arena, ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL and SUMMER SONIC. Over time they collaborated with 41 different artists from all musical genres.

LISA returned to the group after 15 years in 2017. In 2018, the group released new songs, including “the tripod e.p. 2.” Since then they have performed at ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL and SUMMER SONIC, as well as making multiple television appearances. They have also continued producing songs with other artists.

“I have had the pleasure of experiencing m-flo live and they put on a fantastic show,” said Kristen Leiding, Anime Boston chair. “Their music catalog has a little something for everyone and they really know how to have fun with the crowd. Anime Boston’s attendees are in for a real treat. I hope everyone is ready to dance!”

In 2019, m-flo celebrated the 20th anniversary of their major debut with the release of their new album KYO, bringing a new breeze to the Japanese mainstream scene again.

m-flo joins previously-announced guests Michelle Ruff, Brittney Karbowski, Maile Flanagan, GIRLFRIEND, Brittany Lauda, and Matt Shipman. Anime Boston 2020 runs April 10-12 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.
