VenusBlood Frontier International is the first time this long running series has seen the light of day here in the West. Ninetail International ran a very successful Kickstarter for the game, and with the help of JAST USA I was finally able to get my hands on this amazing looking title. A visual novel / strategy RPG set in a Norse setting was right up my alley. The fact that the story would change based on if you befriended or dominated the Goddesses just spurred my interest further! Let’s see if this met my very high expectations.

Time for Conquest!

Long ago in this land there was a great war between humans, Demons and the Gods. The war was referred to as Ragnarok. The humans, who had started the war, were almost extinct. They decided to repent for their sins and live under the protection of the Gods in a floating land called Yggdrasil. The Goddesses there would give them divine protection and peace would come, but this would not be a lasting peace.

The story of VenusBlood Frontier International begins as Loki Muspelheim, the grandson of The Dark Surt who rules the demon realm Utgardi, appears before the aging ruler. It is time for him to choose a successor to his throne, and Loki appears with his cousins to accept the challenge being laid out. Loki’s family had been disgraced and stripped of their powerful Dark Gear after his father was accused of being a traitor. This will make the mission Surt is tasking him with much more difficult, but this is the only chance to regain his family’s honor.

Sometimes Pats are needed.

Surt tells Loki and his three cousins Hel, Fenir and Jorm that if they want to take his throne they must go to Yggdrasil and steal the heart of the continent. None of them are sure why he wants such an item as it will cause the continent to likely plummet to the ground killing the humans. This would have a great effect on the demon realm as well, but they are demons and all power hungry, so that is a minor detail. Loki gathers his meager army and trusty family spear and heads out to conquer Yggdrasil. He will need to rely on his cunning as raw power is certainly out of the question in his weakened state!

Honestly VenusBlood Frontier International was maybe my favorite visual novel story ever. I love the structure since things will change almost every time you play this game. The CG artwork found here is outstanding and the there is plenty of it to enjoy. These may be only slight differences in some cases, but it will certainly keep things fresh. There are three different main endings and some sub endings depending on if you decide to befriend or corrupt each Goddess. The order in which you choose to invade each area will change things up, and if you meet the requirements you can recruit the cousins into your army!

VenusBlood | Fenir
She’s looking for a few good men!

As Loki and his army conquer each area of Yggdrasil the Goddesses of that territory will be forced to join your army. Loki has two choices then, either befriend the Goddess or corrupt her through training. This is done through the call menu where you get to choose to either mingle or train. As you can pretty much already guess, corruption is where most of the H Scenes in the game take place. Some of these can get pretty extreme with lots of tentacles, bondage and more. While you can play the All Ages version of this and avoid all of these, I feel you’d be missing an important part of this game. These scenes tell their own story about the Goddesses giving into their lust and becoming Loki’s slave. Though I think most of them were kinda lewd to start with, they just hid it well.

The thrilling conclusion of this review on page 2!

Steve started with oprainfall not long after the campaign moved from the IGN forums to Facebook. Ever since, he has been fighting to give all non-mainstream RPGs a fair voice. As the site admin, he will continue to do this and even show there is value in what some would deem "pure ecchi." He loves niche games and anime more than anything... well, except maybe Neptune.
